This somewhat complimentary poster of the Soviet Union was issued in 1977, sixty years after the Russian Revolution brought the Communist regime into control. A simple physical map of the massive territory notes major cities, international borders, prominent geographic features, and the route of the Artika (the first surface ship to reach the North Pole). Accompanying text offers a brief (and biased) history of the Soviets, along with a map game that highlights the immensity of the nation. The verso offers a crossword on Soviet geopolitics and a teaching guide. The map was copyrighted by Hammond Incorporated of Maplewood, New Jersey. Published by Scholastic Magazines, Inc. as a Headline Focus Wall Map in October 1977.
