Description The WWII German Luftwaffe Side Cap (Fliegermütze) was the standard soft field cap worn by aircrew, ground personnel, and paratroopers of the Luftwaffe throughout the Second World War. Introduced in 1935, it was a simple, practical, and easily foldable cap that remained in service through 1945. Our 100% accurate replication of the original is constructed from blue-grey wool , the Luftwaffe Fliegermütze featured a two-piece side-fold design, front scallops, and cotton lining for comfort. The front bore the embroidered Luftwaffe eagle above the national cockade, both machine-sewn in grey or silver thread. Some early examples also displayed an officer-quality aluminum bullion eagle and cockade and can be chosen on the product selection menu. Branch-colored piping (Waffenfarbe) was used to distinguish service types: Golden Yellow – Flying and paratroop personnel (Flieger, Fallschirmjäger) Red – Anti-aircraft (Flak) units Brown – Signals troops Green – Ground units and field divisions Blue – Medical service Light Grey – Administrative and clerical staff Officer versions included silver aluminum piping along the crown and scallops, while enlisted ranks wore caps either unpiped or with colored piping corresponding to their branch. The Luftwaffe Fliegermütze was worn with both the service dress tunic (Waffenrock) and field uniforms, and was favored by pilots for its compact, comfortable fit under flight headgear.
