Description Our replicationof the Imperial Russian Army summer gymnasterka is a true reproduction of what was  the standard enlisted man’s field blouse of the First World War, it is  lightweight and practical, and is one of the most iconic garments of the Russian soldier  during the campaigns of 1914–1917. WW1 Imperial Russian Army summer gymnasterka is made in khaki / sand-colored cotton (100% natural Indian cotton, less than 12 oz. weight, mill dyed khaki – not vat dyed, pre-shrunk), our summer gymnasterka  has a  straight-cut pullover design featured a high standing collar with colored branch tabs, a short button placket (3 buttons) at the chest, and long sleeves with plain cuffs. The back is plain and unvented, emphasizing functional tailoring over style. These are typically worn over breeches (sharovary) and secured at the waist with a leather belt and ammunition pouches (also available on this page, along with puttees and cap), the gymnasterka is the quintessential Russian field uniform. Soldiers’ blouses were often well-worn in service, showing fading, sweat stains, and repairs, which reflected the harsh realities of trench and field life on the Eastern Front. This garment not only served as practical clothing but also became a symbol of the Russian enlisted soldier, later influencing Soviet uniform design throughout the 20th century.
