This fascinating geographic snapshot of the world at the end of the 19th century was originally edited by Dr. Hermann Berghaus and published in 1892, two years after the death of the influential German cartographer. The contents reflect several decades of work by Berghaus and other specialists at the Geographical Institute of Justus Perthes in Gotha. Seven pages of ‘preliminary remarks’ and fifteen pages of maps provide a detailed overview of complex geographical principles of the world and individual continents. Numerous professional fields are incorporated into the singular volume – climatology, glaciology, volcanology, geomorphology, and more.
