Inter-War (Nazi Germany) NSRL 1938 Breslau Gymnastics & Sports Festival Badge - Original Issue

This is an original Third Reich NSRL Gymnastics and Sports Festival Badge presented to participants at the 1938 Sports Festival in Breslau, Germany (now Wroclaw, Poland). The NSRL, Nationalsozialistischer Reichsbund für Leibesübung (National Socialist Reich Association for Physical Exercise) was the Sports governing body of the Third Reich. DESCRIPTION: Constructed out of a die struck nickel-silver base, silver washed and black burnished. Obverse: a NSRL closed winged eagle w/mobile swastika on its chest. It's encircled by, "Deutsches Turn-U. Sportfest" (German Gymnastics and Sports Festival) across the top and "Breslau 1938" at the bottom. Reverse: Full back with a soldered pin-back on a round base plate. Maker Marked: 1). "H. Aurich" (Hermann Aurich) Dresden. 2). "Rob.Neff" (W.35) Berlin. HISTORY: From 24 to 31 July 1938, Breslau, Germany in Silesia (Modern day Wroclaw, Poland) was flooded with athletes from across Germany and German athletes from all over the world. It was attended by the highest leaders of the Nazi party, including Adolf Hitler. Others included Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler and Dr. Joseph Goebbels. Athletes competed in gymnastics, running, swimming, boxing, dancing, singing, parading, rowing, jumping, canoeing, etc., reminiscent of an Olympic event fresh off the 1936 summer Olympics in Berlin. The event was stunning but as it were, it would be the first AND last Breslau Sportsfest. The threat of what ended up as WW2, cancelled the 1939 Breslau Sportsfest and all subsequent events (obviously).
